The church of São Marcos, founded in the fifteenth century and with important renovations by Diogo de Castilho in the following century, has a longitudinal plan composed of the nave, main chapel (covered with a late gothic vault) and the side Renaissance Chapel of the Magi, topped by a coffered dome. The current facade, from the end of the eighteenth century, still contains the Manueline portal (under the church's high choir) molded by naturalistic decoration. Also noteworthy are the late Gothic and Renaissance tomb structures, that mark the interior space, and the main altarpiece, a sculptural composition attributed to Nicolau Chanterenne.
The convent, as a whole, underwent major changes due to the strong fire of the nineteenth century, which left the convent and its cloisters in ruins, over which the Palace of São Marcos, south of the church, was built in the mid-twentieth century.
The work consisted essentially of the photographic register, survey and development of a three-dimensional model of the current situation of the church. A detailed survey of the tombs and sculptural representations was also carried out.
