Description

The Camoeira tower was built by António Vaz de Camões, great-uncle of the Portuguese epic poet Luís de Camõies (Espanca, 1978). The current structure is made up of two bodies: the old tower, typical structure of the late-Gothic Manueline period, with three floors and terrace, which would probably be crowned with battlements; and a ground-floor, which surrounds the tower on the south and west sides, and which was added during the sixteenth century. This last body houses two large rooms with three sections covered by rib vaults with a sharp edge, supported by granite corbels.

Produced Material

The work carried out consisted essentially in the survey of existing structures and the photographic register of the current state of the building.
